Thanks for registering your interest in the DriveSense ADI Academy. We're gathering interest from candidates across the UK and will be in touch with details of the training rollout in your area soon.
Why become an ADI
Over 40,000 qualified driving instructors work in the UK. Demand for lessons consistently outstrips supply — and the flexibility is hard to match.
Full-time ADIs charging market rates typically earn between £30k and £45k. Experienced instructors in high-demand areas earn more.
Set your own diary. Work mornings, evenings, or weekends — whatever fits around your life. Most ADIs are self-employed.
DVSA test backlogs mean learners are waiting months for tests — and for instructors. Qualified ADIs with availability rarely struggle to fill their diary.
Every pupil you qualify becomes a safer driver for life. It's one of the few careers where your direct impact is visible and lasting.
Once on the pink licence, qualified DriveSense ADIs can access paid fleet training work through the DriveSense network — one of the UK's largest fleet training providers, trusted by Amazon, Ocado, and major corporate fleets.
How qualification works
The DVSA ADI qualification has three parts, all of which must be passed within two years of passing the theory test. DriveSense supports you through every stage.
100 multiple-choice questions across 4 categories, plus 14 hazard perception clips. Online platform with unlimited mock tests included.
A ~60-minute practical test to a professional standard. Maximum 6 driving faults, none repeated. In-car coaching with a local DriveSense trainer.
A ~45-minute observed lesson. Scored against 17 competencies across lesson planning, risk management, and teaching. The most intensive part — and where DriveSense invests the most training time.
Once 40 hours of Part 3 training are signed off, you can apply for a trainee licence and teach real pupils for up to 6 months before your final test.
More than just ADI qualification
DriveSense is one of the UK's leading fleet driver training companies — trusted by Amazon, Ocado, and major logistics operators nationwide. Qualified ADI trainers who join the DriveSense network can access paid fleet training work alongside their learner driver teaching.
Once you qualify as an ADI, you're eligible to join the DriveSense fleet trainer network. This means access to a consistent pipeline of paid fleet training sessions — EV familiarisation, last-mile delivery training, driver safety courses, and more — booked and managed through DriveSense, on top of your own learner driving work.
